The foundation focuses on Mental Health Education, Advocacy, Access to care and Funding for Central Virginia families whose children up to age 21 are struggling with mental illness and associated drug abuse problems. 

  • asq-2 (1)Suicide Screening-  In partnership with Dr. Lisa Horowitz from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Beacon Tree is focused on implementing ASQ suicide screening in primary care and pediatric practices starting in Virginia. ASQ is an evidence-based 4-question suicide screening tool that has identified children and adults at risk for suicide. Learn more
  • Family Grant Program – Provide gap funding for mental health treatment for a young person up to age 21 with one of our partner mental health professionals or organizations. For 2017, we’d like to change this into a K-12 low interest loan program so families have a resource to fund long-term mental health care without divesting their retirement accounts and getting penalized. Learn more
  • Preventure Drug Prevention Program for Adolescents– In partnership with VCU Drug & Alcohol Studies and pending a submitted grant from NIH, Beacon Tree will help implement this evidence based program that has shown up to 80% reduction in drug and alcohol use in schools outside the US.  Learn more

    #umatterchallenge – In memory of  Charles Aubrey Rogers, the 20 year old son of our President, Anne Moss Rogers, we are spearheading a social media campaign for teens and young adults to promote connectedness and eliminate stigma of mental health. This is still in pilot and being developed. Learn more

  • Operation OnRamp – This program pays for or provides gap funding for the psychological testing needed to determine a treatment plan for a child. Mental health providers and CMHRC send us candidates whose insurance falls short of paying for this assessment and payments are made directly to the provider Contact us
  • CMHRC– We support the Children’s Mental Health Resource Center (CMHRC) which acts as a GPS for families seeking care for a child needing mental health resources. It is a family mental health call center founded by the Virginia Treatment Center for Children (VTCC)  Learn more
