Donation to Beacon Tree by Kelly Hicks in memory of her friends’ son, May 25, 1993 – June 9, 2016.
Gibson died by suicide June 9, 2016 shortly after turning 23 years old. He was the oldest son of my good friends who are honestly some of the nicest people I know.
When they first moved into our neighborhood some 20 years ago, I remember thinking they were the cutest family. All naturally blonde, physically fit, and their two precious little boys had white blonde hair – just adorable! Always outdoors being active, enjoying and loving life!
Gibson was their oldest son. He was handsome, popular, very active and involved with sports while growing up. He played golf, roller hockey, was captain of his high school’s tennis team and voted most valuable player in 2011. He loved the outdoors and spent a lot of time with family and friends, boating, fishing and enjoying the beach.
Suicide leaves so many questions, guilt, what if’s, why and so many other feelings along with the heartbreak nobody understands unless they have experienced it. I hurt watching my friends learning to live their new normal that is not normal in any way!
Drugs, depression, mental illness, social pressures etc., whatever the reason, we all need a better understanding to help each other before it is too late. You are missed, Gibson.
